Restoration in Sandbridge Hampered

Carload upon carload aimed their vehicles for the grounded barge today, and collectively brought the narrow and sometimes treacherous streets of post-storm Sandbridge to a crawl.

On a day when homeowners begin to dig out and assess damage, utility and cable crews are restoring service, the City is clearing roads to restore basic necessities to damaged areas, time is money.

By early afternoon, when Sandpiper Road had to be shut down (from 3200 south), there were throngs of moms, pops, grandmas and uncle bobs all trying to either drive to the stranded barge, or find their way back to the market... And trying to reach any destination in between the two points was an exercise in frustration.

Just for the record: Sandbridge streets are not fully restored. The pavement CANNOT BE SEEN on most of Sandfiddler Road. Water is 18 inches deep on Sandpiper Road in at least three areas.

The City is actively clearing sand AND BLOCKING THE ROAD. It is their job. Thank them- and stay home tomorrow!
