I've had both an apple and a cherry tree in my backyard for several years. The apple tree produces a fair amount of fruit, but notsomuch the cherry. Earlier today, however, I was out spraying for bugs when I noticed this...four large apples growing on my cherry tree! I've never heard of such a thing, and wonder if this is a unique or rather commonplace phenomenon.
