Terra Restaurant and Bar in Peninsula Town Center hosted a fund raiser on May 24 for the WAYNE GOMES YOUTH BASEBALL DIVERSITY FOUNDATION.
The foundation supports the growth of baseball among inner city youth on the Peninsula. Wayne Gomes was a star pitcher at ODU and then in the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies. He now lives on the Peninsula and is involved in the ownership and management of the Peninsula Pilots baseball team and in his foundation.
In attendance were Robert Love, a coach in Hampton's RBI youth baseball league; Aaron Brooks, former star quarterback at University of Virginia and then in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints; Wayne Gomes; Tony Brothers, an NBA referee for the past 17 years; and Elton Brown, star lineman at UVA and now in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals.
