The storm that swept through Virginia Beach on the afternoon of May 24, 2011 took down two fence panels and threw them around our backyard in Ocean Lakes. A 4x4 fence post was snapped and two fence panels flew across the yard. One panel was broken in half and the other landed on the opposite side of the yard. There was a gouge taken out of our tree, pieces of the fence were driven into the ground, and a cast-iron fire pit was knocked over. Our neighbor saw it and described it as "spectacular". Is there such a thing as a micro-tornado, because there were swirl patterns in the grass. Thank goodness no one was in the backyard when it happened.
