Winds cause restrictions on bridge-tunnel
09:42 AM EDT on Thursday, September 25, 2008
NORFOLK (AP) -- Winds of up to 40 miles per hour at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel have prompted officials to place restrictions on the crossing.
The Level 1 restriction means that pickup campers, camper trailers, house trailers and vehicles with exterior cargo are not allowed to cross the bridge. Vehicles towing anything also are banned from crossing.
The winds are from a nor'easter off the coast of North Carolina. It is expected to bring high winds, rain, high surf and dangerous rip currents to parts of the East Coast over the next couple days.
