DARE CO, NC -- Drivers in Rodanthe, NC on Thursday were maneuvering through as much as four inches of water on NC 12 at Mirlo Beach as a storm churns offshore.
Parts of the road remain covered with water, sand and debris, and road crews have been making passes to clear the sand off the busy roadway.
In Kitty Hawk, NC, officials were urging drivers to use caution in the area of E. Wilkins Steer and Virginia Dare Trail because between six and eight inches of ocean overwash had been reported.
State highway patrol and the Dare County sheriff's office are monitoring conditions.
A high surf advisory remains in effect through 7:00 a.m. Sunday for that area, Dare Co. officials said.
