HAMPTON ROADS -- A cold front is on the way and brought powerful thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening.
Shortly after 3:00 p.m., the Eastern Shore and Richmond started experiencing strong storms. In fact, a suspected tornado swept through the capital city.
Media reports said some trees were downed west of the city and a section of I-64 was closed, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or more serious damage.
By 4:30, nearly 145,000 customers were without power in Richmond, according to Dominion Power.

Nickel-size hail was reported in Newport News, said Lou Thurston, public information officer for Newport News Police Department.
A viewer says that Naval Station Oceana's Dam Neck Annex has sustained some wind damage.
