HAMPTON - The woman who recanted her rape accusation against Johnathon Montgomery has a new attorney.

In a hearing Thursday morning in Hampton General District Court, Elizabeth Coast's public defender withdrew from the case because of a conflict of interest.  The judge appointed another public defender to her case.

She's charged with perjury for accusing Montgomery of rape. He was convicted in 2008 and, after Coast came forward, he was released by conditional pardon just before Thanksgiving.

Court records show Coast, now 22, was 17 when she accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 10 and he was 14. In recanting, she said she made up the story after her parents caught her looking at sexually explicit websites. She reportedly picked Montgomery because he and his family had moved away.

Coast and her new attorney will be back in court on December 13 for a status check.
