NORFOLK - It's a great day for families with loved ones on USS Forrest Sherman. They're home.

The 276 crewmembers on the Arleigh Burke-class Aegis destroyer were gone eight months to the eastern Mediterranean.

While on station, Forrest Sherman embarked Helicopter Squadron Detachment 48.1 with Venom 503, logging more than 510 flight hours in their SH60-B helicopter. The crew made 16 ports stops in six different countries. While in Haifa, Israel, the crew helped renovate a women's shelter.

“As we return to homeport, I would like to thank all the Sailors for their hard work and dedication,” said Commanding Officer Cmdr. Brad Busch. “I’m proud of the crew’s achievements and the manner in which they presented themselves.”
