NORFOLK - The Wards Corner section of Norfolk is getting a new look and developers of the Suburban Park Shopping Center want restaurants to be part of their plan.

So far, Harris Teeter and TownePoint Bank have committed to the site and are expected to begin work in April on their storefronts. Previously, Suburban Asset Management said Great Clips hair salon and Albano Cleaners had signed on to the new Suburban Park Shopping Center.

Officials told the Wards Corner Task Force that it will build the rest of the shopping center to accommodate as many as 11 retailers. They hope to have restaurants and outside seating.

City Councilman Barclay Winn says he's excited that there are a good mix of businesses coming to the area that produce quality products.

“It’s always been a special place, but was really special back then, and we are working to restore that,” said Winn.

They also said they hope that construction will be done by the beginning of 2014.
