WILLIAMSBURG - For many people in Hampton Roads, it's just not Christmas without spending the weekend in Williamsburg for the parade and Grand Illumination.

The Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance's Community Christmas Parade is December 1.  The theme of the parade, now in its 47th year, is “Lights, Camera, Christmas.”  There are more than 100 entries - from scouts to floats, batons, dogs, horses, llamas and the guest of honor, Santa Claus.

The parade begins at Merchants Square at 9:00 a.m., heads down Richmond Road, turns left onto Brooks Street and ends at William & Mary Hall parking lot.

Last year, the parade had over 8,000 spectators.

For information, call the Alliance at 757-229-6511 or check out the Christmas in Williamsburg Website.

Your Williamsburg weekend ends Sunday with Colonial Williamsburg’s 78th Annual Grand Illumination from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

There will be fireworks at four Historic Area locations, candles lit in the windows of colonial buildings.

Grand Illumination schedule:
5:00 p.m.: Candles are lit in windows throughout the Historic Area
5:15 p.m.: Live entertainment begins on outdoor stages
6:30 p.m.: New lighting ceremony. Guests illuminate glow sticks
7:00 p.m.: 18th-century style fireworks with simultaneous programs at the Governor’s Palace, Market Square, and the north and south sides of the Capitol building.

At the conclusion of the fireworks, the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums march on Duke of Gloucester Street and guests are invited to join in the march.
