NORFOLK- The Outback Steakhouse restaurant at the city-owned Waterside complex in Norfolk is now closed and Joe's Crab Shack will likely be out by the end of the month.
Right now Waterside is quiet and desolate compared to its livelier days. But, Norfolk City spokeswoman Lori Crouch told 13News Now that people shouldn’t be discouraged, the once popular attraction will be up and running again.
The city is working with a new developer, The Cordish Company, to renovate the nearly vacant mall into a new facility called "Waterside Live" that would feature restaurants and nightclubs.
"We are expecting to the turn the keys over to Cordish sometime this fall,” Crouch said
The city has given notice to Joe's Crab Shack that they must vacate their restaurant by August 31st. They have been on a month-to-month lease since February of 2013. The city cited a history of late payments as the reason that Joe's was not given a five-year lease extension.
Outback's lease was also set to expire on August 31st.
The two closings mean Hooters restaurant will be the only operating business at Waterside until the renovation is complete.
