NORFOLK -- With the coming of Spring, there's a lot of yard work to do and some people need help.

The Larchmont-Edgewater Civic League in Norfolk is urging residents to be careful who they deal with.  Two residents paid in advance for gutter and yard work and the men never showed up.

Another neighbor had gutters cleaned, but the workers claimed they did extra work and demanded more money.

Civic league officials say this is a known scheme where groups of people going through the area looking for work and asking for money up front.

They remind homeowners not to take chances by hiring unlicensed workers. They are also encouraging people to never pay for work in advance. They also encourage people to watch out for each other and report suspicious activity.
