HAMPTON -A memorial service that was to be held Tuesday at Ogden Hall on the campus of Hampton Univerity has been moved to Wednesday.  The memorial is for David Esan who drowned last Wednesday in a university pool.

A release from the university indicated the service had to be moved to Wednesday  at noon due to unforeseen cercumstances.

Esan was at a pool party at Holland Hall when the accident happened.

University officials say lifeguards and paramedics responding to the hall's pool couldn't revive Esan, who was in his freshman year at HU.

The party was sponsored by the Freshman Class, HU spokeswoman Yuri Milligan said.

Hampton City Police say multiple 911 calls were made about a possible drowning at 11:47 p.m. and that Hampton Fire crews responded.

In a statement, the university said, "We extend our deepest sympathy to David's family and friends for their profound loss."

Esan, from Randallstown, Maryland, was a pharmacy major, a member of the choir and lived in Harkness Hall. The university says he was recognized as one of Harkness Hall's "16 Men of Excellence" for his commitment to academics and community service.

Grief counselors are being made available for students.

The Hampton University Police Dept. is handling the investigation.
