WILLIAMSBURG- Dead birds from Arkansas to Louisiana to Sweden have been falling from the skies.

Dan Cristol a biology professor at the College of William and Mary  is one of many bird experts fascinated by the recent phenomena.  " Its not  good to ignore mother nature something is happening here", Cristol said.

On New Year's Eve thousands of red wing black birds showered a neighborhood in the small town of Bebee, AK.  Wildlife officials investigating the massive bird kill believe fireworks may have startled the roosting birds and caused them to crash into power lines, trees and houses. " The fireworks may have been what got them up in the air in the first place at night when they are not supposed to be flying around,  Cristol said, but  its not fully explaining what happened."

Cristol believes  there are many different reasons for mass bird kills -- poisoning, a strange weather event - but he admits the reason may never be found.
