JAMES CITY COUNTY - The cold weather broke some of the pipes at a James City County campground and park.

Officials say the pipes at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. are 30-40 years old. The leak occurred in an underground pipe adjacent to the full hook-up camping sites.

"The break was in an old pipe, which had been capped and abandoned. However, there was still pressure in the pipe," said spokesperson Veda McMullen.

McMullen said there were no campers in the park at the time.

Chickahominy Riverfront Park opened in 2002.

The ice and snow has closed other parks and trails: Powhatan Creek Park, Jamestown Beach Park and Skate Park.

All other parks are open; however, the open fields at those locations may be closed. For the latest information, you can call 757-259-5360.
