PORTSMOUTH -- A 590-foot freight ship ran "soft aground" in the Elizabeth River Wednesday night.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. near Hospital Point in Portsmouth, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Virginian Pilot reports the ship, The Hanze Goteborg, was heading out from port loaded with soybeans.

Shipping traffic has been limited while crews work to remove the ship with a towboat, officials said.

No injuries have been reported and the ship was not considered in peril.
