8:35 a.m. UPDATE: The man gave up to police and was taken from the home.

CHESAPEAKE -- Chesapeake Police are on the scene of a barricade situation.

Authorities were called to a home in the 700 block of Dissdale Lane around 5:30 a.m.

Det. Dorienne Boykin says the SWAT team and negotiators are working to convince a 21-year old man, who has a weapon, to come out. Authorities say the man has a history of mental health issues and is alone in the home.

Police initially went to the home after a family member contacted police, she told WVEC.com.

Because of the situation, police have blocked traffic in that immediate area.  An officer was parked at the intersection of Dissdale and Plainfield Avenue.

A 13News Now viewer said school buses were being turned around.
