NEWPORT NEWS--A bald eagle was released in a field near the Mariners' Museum Tuesday after it had been rehabilitated by the group, Wildlife Response, Inc.

The bird had been rescued by two Peninsula watermen who found it floating in the water.

The eagle dubbed "James Darryl" by Response workers was released just after 3 p.m.

If for some reason the eagle had not flown, it would have been taken to the Wildlife Center of Virginia for further rehab.
