VIRGINIA BEACH-- Dominion Power says 15,000 customers in Virginia Beach were without power Wednesday after a tree fell on a transmission line near Northampton Blvd. and Bayside Rd.

The areas affected were Stratford, Shore Dr. and Independence Blvd.

Wind also toppled a tree on Kempsville Road in Norfolk around 4:30 p.m.  The road was shut down between Virginia Beach Blvd. and Airway Dr.

Fire officials said the tree hit a car and the driver suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene.

Officials expect the road to be shut down for at least two hours.

A tree also blocked one lane of I-64 westbound around 5:30 p.m.  Traffic was backed up for two miles.
