VIRGINIA BEACH -- Virginia Beach police are investigating some muggings near the Oceanfront.

13News Now received one complaint that just last week one man in his 40s who was riding his bike was jumped by a group of as many as 10 teenage boys. They knocked him off his bike and started kicking and hitting him.

Police say they have had three reported cases -- one each of the evenings of Saturday, August 2, Sunday, August 24, and Monday, August 25. Two of the cases have been classified as assaults and one as a robbery.

The incidents are happening near the sidewalks and bike trails on the 600 to 1000 block of Norfolk Avenue.

Although authorities have three reported cases, police said there could be other incidents that just haven’t been reported.

Dave Beers, who was walking his large yellow Labrador Retriever named Sydney said the news of the attacks wasn't a surprise.

Police say they’ve beefed up patrols and although the incidents have happened in the same area, it’s too soon to tell whether the attacks are connected.
