VIRGINIA BEACH -- A rehabilitated turtle hobbled his way to freedom Thursday.

A team with the Virginia Aquarium released 'Shredder' back into the ocean near 31st Street in Virgnia Beach. Dozens of people turned out to cheer him on.

'Shredder' was brought to the aquarium after accidently being hooked by a fisherman in Sandbridge. He has since made a full recovery.

The sea turtle was discovered with a fourth of his shell missing. Experts believe that injury was the result of a prior shark attack.

Aquarium officals have fitted him with an acoustic tag to track his movements.
