USS Nassau ARG deploys on regular tour of duty

NORFOLK -- More than 4,000 sailors Marines from Norfolk and North Carolina are headed out on routine deployment.

The USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group will support maritime security operations and more in the 5th and 6th fleet areas.

Nassau ARG is comprise of USS Nassau, USS Mesa Verde and USS Ashland, Marines  from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Lejeune; Aviation Combat Element, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 162 (Reinforced); Logistics Combat Element, Combat Logistics Battalion 24; and its Command Element; Amphibious Squadron Eight, which includes the Nassau, Ashland, Mesa Verde and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 28.

The 5th Fleet covers the Arabian Gulf, Red Sea, Gulf of Oman and parts of the Indian Ocean; the 6th Fleet encompasses the Mediterranean Sea.
