NORFOLK-- The left lanes of I-64 westbound near Military Highway were shut down for several hours following a tractor-trailer accident Wednesday.

The driver of the tractor-trailer said he was coming onto I-64 when the weight in his tractor shifted and overturned his rig.  He says he was carrying several thousand pounds of wood flooring.

Witnesses say a car hit the jersey wall trying to avoid the overturned tractor-trailer.  The driver of the car was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

VDOT opened the HOV lanes to all drivers to help alleviate traffic.

Officials say a heavy-duty wrecker and other equipment would be brought in to lift the truck due to the weight of the cargo.

The ramp from Military Highway to I-64 was also closed while they tried to clear the scene.
