SUFFOLK-- A 5th grader allegedly brought marijuana to his Suffolk Elementary School on Friday.
Diana Klink, spokeswoman for the city of Suffolk, says the boy is a student at Driver Elementary.
The boy's parents and police were notified by the school.
Klink says that in a meeting with the boy's mother and police, the boy said he found it in his father's truck and brought it to school to show his teacher because, "he wanted his father to stop smoking marijuana."
Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw says the student was recommended for expulsion per policy and there will be a hearing within 10 days.
Bradshaw told WVEC.com a hearing on the student's status was held March 5, but the hearing officer has not finalized a decision.
