HAMPTON - Investigators say a store clerk was shot inside a convenience store in Hampton during a robbery attempt late Thursday.
Police say it happened just before midnight at Roy's Quickserve in the 2100 block of West Pembroke Ave.
Dispatchers received several calls about a shooting, including one from the victim, 50-year-old Mohammed Ziedan.
According to Sgt. Jason Price, Ziedan was alone in the store when two men entered, pulled guns and demanded money. Then, they opened fire and Ziedan was struck several times in his upper and lower torso.
He was unconscious when medic arrived. Ziedan, who lived on Decesare Drive in Hampton,died at the hospital around 2:30 a.m., police stated.
Norman Saif told 13News his friend had worked at the store for years and that everyone in the area knew and liked Ziedan.
Investigators don't know whether the suspects took anything. The only description they have of the gunmen is that were black men and wore masks.
