NORFOLK - The Snowball Express landed in Norfolk Friday to pick up some special military families. They're among the approximately 1,700 children and spouses of fallen servicemembers getting an all-expenses paid trip to Dallas/Fort Worth.

They'll visit the AT&T Performing Arts Center for the annual tree-lighting celebration, take part in the Dallas Children's Parade and visit Six Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Stockyards and Billy Bobs for a private rodeo and a concert by Academy Award-nominated actor Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.

Program organizers say the holidays can be difficult for those who have lost a loved one and it's especially true for children.

Snowball Express is a joint effort by American Airlines and American Eagle via the American Airlines Kids In Need program and is specifically for families who've lost loved ones in active duty since Sept. 11, 2001.
