CHESAPEAKE - An SUV hit the front wall of a Chesapeake 7-Eleven, forcing the store to close Wednesday morning.
It happened around 6:30 a.m. at 4001 Bainbridge Blvd. and the vehicle hit near an ATM. There was a burning smell coming from the machine, so the fire department was called.
Police say the driver was leaving the store and put the vehicle into drive instead of reverse.
An employee says a woman driver was checked by paramedics at the scene.
Police are investigating.
The store will remain closed until city inspectors determine what needs to be done so it can safely reopen.
