NORFOLK--Norfolk Police are looking for two vehicles that ran over a bicyclist Wednesday night.
46-year-old Lyalles Downey Westman was riding on East Ocean View Avenue near Chesapeake Street around 9:40 p.m. Police say a small, red car hit him and kept going. A yellow mini-van taxi also hit him and didn't stop, said spokesman Officer Chris Amos.
"We learned about the taxi through investigating and canvassing for witnesses," Amos told WVEC.com.
The first vehicle should be extensive damage to its front end, Amos stated.
Westman's death had many people questioning why anyone would leave someone to die.
"Two people hit him and neither one stopped? What is wrong with these people," Bryan posted on WVEC's Facebook page.
Rachel said "COWARDS. at least stop and own up to it."
Laurie posted, "People have got to stop speeding down this street. Last week was another hit-and-run about a half block away."
Dot says she lives four doors down from where the accident occurred. "I have begged the city to put a push cross walk there. I've called about 6 times I will call them for sure tomorrow."
Jon Hill on Thursday told 13News he'd known "Downey" for 20 years and would often see him at Beach Pub.
Wednesday night, another friend said "Downey" had been at the pub shortly before being killed.
If anyone has information about either crime they are asked to call the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP,
