VIRGINIA BEACH -- Approximately 35,000 people are signed up to take part Shamrock Marathon events in Virginia Beach.
Some of the races in the March 14-16 event are sold out. Registration is still open, though, for the Townebank 8K, ACCESS College 8K Student Challenge, the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon and Operation Smile Final Mile.
A group of up and coming US Athletes are set to compete this weekend. There are currently over a hundred Elite athletes representing more than 20 states and 6 countries. Many of these Elite athletes will be looking to secure Olympic Marathon Trials qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.
The 2014 Yuengling Shamrock Marathon Weekend is a three-day event which features a two-day Sports & Fitness Expo and five separate races. The expo is held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and will feature Bart Yasso, the chief running officer of Runner’s World Magazine.
Charities that benefit from the marathon weekend are the LIVESTRONG Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – JDRF, Operation Smile, ACCESS College Foundation, Preseton’s March for Energy, and the Noblemen.
