NORFOLK -- The Norfolk State University Board of Visitors appointed Eddie N. Moore, Jr., interim president and CEO.
Board of Visitors Rector Thomas N. Chewning made the announcement Friday.
Moore recently served as president of St. Paul’s College from November 2011 through June 2012.
According to a news release, Moore said he will work to regain the public’s trust and faith in Norfolk State University.
“I will specifically work on regaining the confidence of the state and federal governments as it relates to our financial records and will work to mitigate NSU’s Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) issues,” Moore said Friday afternoon after accepting the appointment.
Previously, Moore served as the president of Virginia State University from 1993-2010.
Prior to VSU, Moore was treasurer of the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he served on 15 state boards and had oversight authority for more than $20 billion of Virginia’s assets. He also served as controller at the College of William and Mary. Before entering the public sector, Moore had a corporate career with Gulf Oil Corporation, where he worked in accounting.
Moore earned his bachelor of science degree in accounting from Penn State in 1968 and his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975.
