NEWPORT NEWS- The death of a man found inside the rooming house where he lived has now been ruled a homicide, Newport News police said.

A friend found the body of 58-year-old Kenneth Armstead just before 8:00 a.m. in the home on 27th Street, said spokeswoman Holly McPherson.

Detectives say Elter Devale Ward, one of the other occupants of the rooming house and Armstead were engaged in a verbal altercation that led to the death.

Police say 54-year-old Ward has been arrested and is charged with 2nd degree murder.
