NORFOLK -- Norfolk Police say a man took a friend's puppy and repeatedly slammed it on the ground until it died.

24-year-old Cornelius Marquez Bell is charged in the Sunday afternoon incident on Virgilina Avenue.

Officer Chris Amos says Bell got agitated with the woman while visiting at her home, took the three-month-old Pit Bull puppy and killed it.

Bell was arrested a short time later on a felony cruelty to animals charge, a Class 6 Felony punishable by up to 5 years in jail and a fine up to $2,500.00.

He's due in court on January 9, 2013, according to Norfolk General District Court online records.
