VIRGINIA BEACH -- The remains of the 30 US servicemembers killed in Afghanistan last weekend are due back on U.S. soil Tuesday.
They'll arrive at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and top civilian and uniformed leaders will be on hand.
In Hampton Roads, home to some of the Navy SEALs killed in the mission, people are reaching out to help their families.
Four radio stations of the Entercom network are set up all day at Haynes Furniture on Va. Beach Blvd. It's the second day of their effort.
Virginia Beach-based company Michael and Son Services is donating $5,000 in gift cards and $1,000 in cash.
On Monday, the Blakeman family stopped by to do what they could.
"All my heart goes out to them and I hope the best for them. I hope they get through this hard time," said Holly Blakeman.
The stations are asking listeners to stop by and donate money and items like paper plates, napkins, gift cards, toiletry items and school supplies.
The money will be given to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
The drive ends at 6:00 p.m., the same time another effort kicks off.
Some of the members of SEAL Team Six loved to surf. So, in tribute, there's a memorial surf paddle at Little Island Pier at Little Island Park off Sandpiper Road in Sandbridge.
Next month, on September 3, WVEC-TV 13 will sponsor a fundraiser called "31 Heroes" with Crossfit 757. Proceeds will go to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
Gov. Bob McDonnell's office released a list of support organizations for military families.
"These are excellent organizations that help to take some of the immediate cost burden away from families, and continue to provide support to families down the road. I want to encourage every Virginian to make a donation today, no matter how small. This is another way that Virginians can show that we are forever thankful to those who have given their lives for our freedom, and we will not forget their loved ones here at home,” he said.
