VIRGINIA BEACH -- A man and woman are charged in the attempted theft of a wig and assault at a Va. Beach store.

Wednesday night, Shanice Andrea Bunton, 21, and Jack Xavier-O’Malley Lewis, 24, were arrested at their home in the 3900 block of Water Oak Rd.

Surveillance cameras caught a woman assaulting one of the owners at Ace Beauty and Wigs on Holland Road on May 17. The woman was thrown onto a display case.

Police say Lewis stepped in and assaulted the woman and her husband, who was trying to break up the fight.

Steven Lee said he was shocked the woman continued to fight his wife for the weave, even after he told her she was caught on camera trying to take it.  He said it’s not the money that has him upset.

“This wig cost $30, $40.  Money is not an object,” said Lee.  “My concern is it is not acceptable what they did in front of kids.”

Police say the video shows Bunton pulling the wig from her handbag and throwing it on the ground and then leaving with Lewis and a toddler.

Bunton is charged with attempted robbery/felony and destruction of property/misdemeanor.

Lewis faces two counts of simple assault/misdemeanor.  Both are in jail and were due to be arraigned Thursday afternoon.

Police say the attempted theft was about $75 in value and the destruction of property as a result of the fight was about $200.
