VIRGINIA BEACH -- Thursday, a Virginia Beach family was honored by the mayor for saving a group of children who had fallen into a creek.
Twelve and thirteen year olds Carter and Bradi Sabo were vacationing at Rocky Acre Farms in Pennsylvania during their spring break when they sprung into action to save the day.
A six barrel train loaded with children aged two to six had detached from an ATV and rolled down a fifteen-foot embankment into a creek.
Carter and Bradi stayed calm and acted quickly, pulling a total of seven people from the water that day.
"I didn't even think, i just reacted as fast as I could.. as soon as I saw them go down the hill.. I jumped off the ATV and I just went down the hill trying to see if anyone was hurt and I saw kids crying and soaking wet, covered in mud.. screaming.. they were just screaming at the top of their lungs wanting their parents so I just grabbed as many as I could, trying to get them up the hill by myself," said Bradi.
An adult and two children were taken to the hospital after the accident, but thankfully no one was seriously hurt.
Kerri Sabo, Bradi and Carter's mom, remembers, "the driver, his arm was bloodied and cut up and kids were crawling all over the embankment and Bradi was pulling children out of the water."
The Sabo family was recognized at Atlantic Shores Christian School where the kids attend.
"Obviously there's very limited number of people who get these awards so these people are true heroes in my mind," said Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms of the Sabos.
