ELIZABETH CITY-- Councilwoman Lena Hill-Lawrence is accused of threatening to shoot a man, according to a 911 call.

Anthony Sharp called police for help on December 23.

He told a 911 dispatcher, "I think she's just gone berserk. Just jealousy or something."

Sharp is a professor at Elizabeth City State University. He told the dispatcher the two were just friends and hinted their relationship was platonic.

However, he explained in the call that he thought Sharp was jealous because he was going on a cruise with another woman.

"I'm about to go on a cruise and she's telling me she's not going to let me out of my driveway and she's orbiting around my house," said Sharp.

Hill-Lawrence declined to comment through her husband.

Elizabeth City police said Hill-Lawrence could have faced a misdemeanor charge for the threat but Sharp did not pursue the charge with police.

Hill-Lawrence was elected to office in December 2009. This is her first term in office.
