NORFOLK-As freezing temperatures settle in, people are turning up the heat. Sometimes, they're surprised their HVAC system isn't working or working well.

Repair companies are answering more service calls at all hours of the night. Chris Smith with Bud's Heating and Air Conditioning says in extreme temperatures, crews answer 10-20 calls a day. He says things you can do to minimize the risk to your systems.

"Preventative maintenance. Sign up, have us come out early and look at the heat, save yourself the headache, save yourself the after-hour money as well," he said.
