Beach police investigate attempted rape at apartment complex

VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police said someone attacked a tenant who was walking to her home at Thalia Gardens Apartments early Saturday morning.

Master Police Officer Tonya Borman told 13News Now the woman was in the 4100 block of Cornwallis Drive at about 2:20 a.m. when she heard footsteps behind her.

Borman said a man grabbed the woman from behind. The victim started punching and fighting back. The two wrestled around until the man ran off towards Bonney Road.

A viewer told 13News Now police went door to door in the complex after the attack, advising people to stay inside their homes.

The woman described her alleged attacker as an "extremely pale" white man, 5'9" - 5'10" tall. He had a medium build and wore a black hoodie and blue jeans at the time. He was about 25 to 30 years old.
