NORFOLK - It's summer and there's a lot to do no matter where you live in Hampton Roads. Here are some events that AltDaily thinks are worth checking out.
NORFOLK: First Fridays, a Granby Street Party in Downtown Norfolk. at TCC Plaza in the 300 block of Granby Street. It's every Friday during the summer from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. To kick off this inaugural season, Norfolk's own Gary U.S. Bonds, who'll perform "Quarter to Three" and his newest music single "That's My Story" released along with his new memoir, "By U.S. Bonds: That's My Story."
Each monthly event will feature a great musical act, pop-up business, a beer garden and lots of fun all on vibrant Granby Street. Make a night of it and enjoy great eats before or after the party at one of the many downtown restaurants.
NORFOLK: The Shore Thing Concert & Independence Day Celebration at Ocean View Park Ocean View Beach Park in Norfolk on July 5. It's from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. This Patriotic beach party is sure to jump-start the weekend with family fun that includes great music, food, beverages, children's activities and more! Dance to live music by The Embers.
NORFOLK: Big Bands On The Bay is Sunday, July 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ocean View Beach Park.
Big Bands on the Bay ends the extended Holiday weekend with a sunset celebration on the Chesapeake Bay. Guests are invited down to the Gazebo at Ocean View Beach Park for live Big Band music and dancing under the stars every Sunday night from 7pm to 9pm now through September 1, 2013. Playing this week: The Terry Chessen Orchestra.
HAMPTON: Block Party with Broken Mouth Annie, Uglyography, Creek Don't Rise and Baby Baby on Saturday, July 6 from 6:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in Downtown Hampton, 710 Settlers Landing Road.
Thanks to the block party committee and YourMusicShow, 3 local original rock acts will join Atlanta based Baby Baby for an evening on the "big stage" outdoors at The Hampton Summer Street Fest (aka BLOCK PARTAY!). Come hang out, drink beer on the street, listen to great music, and celebrate beautiful downtown Hampton! All ages! Free Show! Music begins at 6:45 with Creek Don't Rise. The stage and party take place in a blocked section of E. Queen's Way, Hampton.
