NEWPORT NEWS - The driver, who died on Friday in a three-vehicle accident on I-64 near Lee Hall, has been identified.
Police say Jar Rasmichael Morse, 27, of the 300 block of Bridgewater Drive in Newport News, was traveling westbound when he was struck by a tractor trailer. The medical examiner had to use dental records to make the identification.
The accident and fire closed I-64 West near Lee Hall in Newport News for about six hours early Friday morning.
Investigators say Anesha Daniel lost control of her car around 5:00 a.m. It went off the road and struck the guardrail, coming to a stop in the right lane and shoulder area.
She got out of her car and tried to wave traffic down for help and that's when a tractor trailer struck her car and lost control as well, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya with Va. State Police.
The rig struck a second car driven by Morse and both vehicles burst into flames.
Sgt. Anaya said the road reopened at 11:00 a.m. following cleanup of a "significant amount of diesel fuel spilled, creating a hazmat situation."
Anaya says it's unclear whether the incident was related to the wet roads.
Daniel was charged with reckless driving.
