NORFOLK -- Police are searching for suspects after two children were hurt Friday night during a shooting on Monticello Avenue near Freemason Street.
Police spokeswoman Karen Parker-Chesson said a call came into the Emergency Operations Center shortly before 10:00 p.m.
Officers blocked off a large portion of the area as people left the Norfolk Admirals game at Scope and hundreds of teenagers poured out of the Spring Break Jam Fest at The Norva. The annual event at the venue is for people ages 14 to 18.
Because of the commotion and the fact that streets were closed, Hampton Roads Transit suspended light rail service through that portion of Downtown for a time.
Police broke up several fights, detaining some of the people involved in those.
The suspects are described as males in their 20s and 5' 11" tall. The first man weighs between 150 to 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, blue jeans and black Crocs.
The second suspect is described as weighing between 180 to 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray jacket over a green shirt with lettering on the front.
Police say the suspects were seen arguing on a sidewalk at Monticello and Freemason.
Both shooting victims were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
