CURRITUCK CO., N.C. –  A 16-year-old from Knotts Island is charged with stabbing her newborn daughter to death.

Currituck County Sheriff Susan Johnson says Rebecca ("Becca") Blackmore went to the emergency department of Chesapeake General Hospital on Friday, June 17.

Blackmore supposedly said she given birth to a baby, that the baby was dead, and she left the girl in her bedroom closet.

When Currituck County Sheriff’s deputies got to her home at 290 Knotts Island Road, they found the child dead baby in the closet.

Monday, the Medical Examiner in Greenville performed an autopsy and determined the newborn was alive at the time of her birth and that her death was the result of  multiple stab wounds.

Blackmore, who was a sophomore at Currituck County High School, has been dating her boyfriend, Michael Derosier, for more than a year. He, too, just finished his sophomore year.

13News stopped at Derosier's home in Moyock. There were people in the house, but no one came to the door.

At Blackmore's house, her older brother, Roy Grimstead, told our crew to leave the property, which the family rents.

Blackmore is charged with First Degree Murder. Late Wednesday, she still was in the custody of the Currituck County Sheriff's Office. Her bond is set at $500,000.
