Corinthian Broadcasting, a division of Dun & Bradstreet, buys WVEC from founder Tom Chismam

WVEC's weatherman for much of the 70's and 80's was the much beloved Joe Foulkes, whose mellow voice and trademark salute endeared him to area viewers.

These two fresh faces hosted "Tidewater Evening," a locally produced magazine show. You may recognize Kathryn Barrett and Joe Flanagan, who are still well-known reporters with 13News.

WVEC was sold to the A.H. Belo Corporation of Dallas, Texas. Belo has grown into one of the largest media companies in the United States.
