NORFOLK -- VDOT will test the flood gates at the Midtown Tunnel Wednesday night as it prepares for potential flooding from Hurricane Earl.

The tunnel, from Norfolk to Portsmouth, will be closed for an hour beginning at 11:00 p.m.

Drivers should use the Downtown Tunnel during that time.

Additionally, motorists should expect a single lane closure through the I-264 East Downtown Tunnel tonight, Tuesday, Aug. 31, from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pre-storm drain cleaning activities.
