VIRGINIA BEACH --$26 million has been set aside to mproveInterstate 264 in Va. Beach. Contractors need to be selected for work to begin.
The Va. Dept. of Transportation wants repairs made to the pavement, fix curbs, replace barriers and improve drainage.
Work could begin as soon as August on two projects -- $5 million in pavement repairs on I-264 east from the Witchduck Road to Lynnhaven Parkway exits and $5 million in pavement repairs on I-264 east and west from the Lynnhaven Parkway to Parks Avenue exits.
The third contract, worth $16 million, will upgrade pavement on I-264 east from the Lynnhaven Parkway to London Bridge Road exits and on I-264 west from London Bridge Road to Witchduck Road exits. Crews also will upgrade the guardrails, gutters and fix other drainage issues from Witchduck Road to Parks Avenue. Work could begin as early as spring 2013.
Right now, contractors are repairing barrier walls along I-264 between Witchduck Road and Mount Trashmore. The $1.1 million project will require one lane and the shoulder to be closed as needed.
