VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- Virginia Beach soon will be the home of a transportation research center.

The city announced Tuesday that Old Dominion University plans to open the Center for Innovative Transportation Solutions later this summer. Research of transportation issues will include using modeling and simulation.

An agreement approved Tuesday by the Virginia Beach Development Authority gives the university office space worth about $50,000 annually for three years. The center will complete simulation and modeling research of an equal value for the city in exchange for the space in One Columbus Center.

Mayor William D. Sessoms Jr. says in a news release that the center will be dedicated to finding creative solutions to move people and goods through Hampton Roads.
