CHESAPEAKE – Motorists should be alert for alternating lane closures this weekend at the intersection of Mount Pleasant Road and Fentress Airfield Road.  The closure will begin on the east side of Mount Pleasant Road, Saturday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The closures are weather dependent; in the event of rain, the lanes will remain open.

Crews will be conducting flagging operations to alternate traffic flow.  Motorists are asked to be alert in the work zone.

The weekend closures, necessary due to excessive rain and moist conditions Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, are part of the Mount Pleasant Road/Fentress Airfield Road intersection expansion project which began in November 2010.  The intersection expansion calls for turn lanes in both directions, and the installation of new traffic signaling. Traveler safety should be greatly enhanced as a result of the intersection expansion.
