NORFOLK-- The Midtown Tunnel between Norfolk and Portsmouth didn't close as expected Sunday, but Elizabeth River Crossings says users should be prepared for a closure before Monday's high tide at around 9:15 a.m.

As of 1:30 p.m., Sunday, the Midtown was open.

Drivers were warned to expect 15-20 minute delays at the evening high tide. ERC would escort vehicles through the tunnel in each direction if need be.  Should conditions be worse than anticipated, the tunnel could be closed completely.
