Hampton Roads, Va. - In an effort to keep you informed, VDOT publishes the following scheduled highway lane closures that may affect traffic in Hampton Roads.  These closures are subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen events.  Other closures may occur which do not appear on this report.

Note: VDOT will close the I-264 Downtown Tunnel westbound from 7 p.m. on Friday, March 4, and reopen at 5 a.m. on Monday, March 7.  The City Hall entrance ramp to I-264 will be closed during the tunnel closure. Motorists can access I-464 from the Tidewater Drive on-ramp, or the Market Street on-ramp.

HENRICO/NEW KENT/JAMES CITY COUNTY/YORK/NEWPORT NEWS, HAMPTON
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile, alternating lane closures from the I-295 Interchange to Mallory in Hampton for pothole patching, Monday, March 7, through Thursday, March 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

JAMES RIVER BRIDGE
Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on the James River Bridge for beam end repair, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 6, through Thursday, March 10, from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 17 South – Motorists should expect alternating mobile and static lane closures on the James River Bridge for electrical repairs, Tuesday, March 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 17 North – Motorists should expect left lane closures on the James River Bridge for equipment staging, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 6, through Thursday, March 10, from 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

MONITOR-MERRIMAC MEMORIAL BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-664 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile alternating lane closures for tunnel washing, Monday, March 7, through Wednesday, March 9, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HAMPTON ROADS BRIDGE-TUNNEL
I-64 East – Motorist should expect overnight single lane closures Sunday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for the roadway lighting upgrade to the I-64 East Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel. Westbound traffic will not be affected and no weekend closures are planned. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2011.

Motorists are encouraged to use I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel to avoid delays.  Take Exit 264 to access I-664.  Use exit 15A for Norfolk and Virginia Beach destinations.  Use exit 15B for Chesapeake and Outer Banks destinations.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating, mobile lane closures for tunnel washing, Tuesday, March 1, through Thursday, March 3, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL
I-264 West – The Downtown Tunnel will be closed Westbound for ceiling panel removal beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 7, through Monday, March 10, at 5 a.m.  The City Hall on-ramp to I-264 will be closed during the tunnel closure.  Motorists can access I-464 from the Tidewater Drive on-ramp or from the Market Street on-ramp.

1-264 East/West – Motorists should expect single, mobile, alternating lane closures in the Downtown Tunnel for tunnel sweeping operations, Monday, March 7, and Thursday, March 10, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

MIDTOWN TUNNEL
Route 58 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures for tunnel washing, Wednesday, March 9, through Friday, March 11, from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

NORFOLK
Hampton Boulevard Grading Project
Hampton Boulevard traffic continues to be temporarily detoured between Mapleshade Avenue and B Avenue. The six-lane detour will remain in place until the underpass is constructed. Project completion is scheduled for winter 2013.

I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at the I-64 Interchange, to remove bridge mounted sign panels and sign structures, Monday, March 7, through Thursday, March 10, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-564 North – Motorists should expect single, alternating lane closures on I-564 and at the HOV I-64 East Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, March 7, through Thursday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-564 North – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures on Little Creek Road at the I-564 Overpass for Bridge Safety Inspection, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures on Granby Street at the I-64 Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Bainbridge Boulevard at the I-264 West Overpass for bridge safety inspection, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Victory Boulevard for overhead sign maintenance, Tuesday, March 8, and Wednesday, March 9, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

PORTSMOUTH/NORFOLK/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Effingham Street to Birdneck Road for storm drain cleaning, from Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange to Birdneck Road for roadway sweeping, from Sunday, March 6, through Friday, March 10, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE
I-64 East/West Restorative Pavement Project – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-464 Interchange, Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for restorative pavement maintenance work.  Work will include patching isolated concrete pavement, increasing the width of the inside shoulder and replacing two lifts of asphalt.  These paving operations will continue Sunday through Thursday until the end of August 2011.

I-464 North/South – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from the I-64 Interchange, to Poindexter Street, for roadside lighting inspection Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the Rotunda Bridge to the Battlefield Interchange for shoulder restoration ad guardrail repair, Sunday, March 6, through Thursday, March 10, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Route 168 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures on Route 168 at the I-464 Interchange, Sunday, March 6, through Friday, March 11, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

HIGH RISE BRIDGE
I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect lane closures at the High Rise Bridge for bridge joints repair and replacement, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

GILMERTON BRIDGE
Route 13 East/West – Motorists should expect daytime closures including flagging operations in the project work zone, stopping traffic in both directions for up to 10 minutes. 

Crews will replace delineators, located on the roadway, during draw bridge openings. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the work zone.

CHESAPEAKE/NORFOLK/PORTSMOUTH
I-264 East – Motorists should expect single alternating lane closures from Victory Boulevard in Portsmouth to the I-464 Interchange in Norfolk/Chesapeake for overhead sign maintenance, Sunday, March 6, through Thursday, March 10, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE/VIRGINIA BEACH
I-664 South – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the I-64/I-264 Interchange for bridge joint repair and replacement, Sunday, March 6, through Friday, March 11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-664 North – Motorists should expect multiple alternating lane closures from the Bowers Hill Interchange to the Route 58 Interchange for bridge joint repair and replacement, Sunday, March 6, through Friday, March 11, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-64 East/West – Motorists should expect mobile lane closures from Dominion Boulevard the to I-264 Interchange for pothole repairs, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

VIRGINIA BEACH
I-64 East – Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at Indian River Road for overhead sign maintenance, Wednesday, March 9, and Thursday, March 10, from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Witchduck Road North/South –Motorists should expect single median lane closures from Bonney Road to the I-264 Interchange on Witchduck Road and on Bonney Road for asphalt placement and storm drainage installation, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I-264 West – Motorists should expect single lane closures at Witchduck Road (Exit 16) for tree trimming and debris removal for increased camera visibility, Wednesday, March 9, and Thursday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

GREENSVILLE COUNTY
Route 301 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from the I-95 Interchange to the Sussex County line for  paving operations, Wednesday, March 2, through Friday, March 11, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

SOUTHHAMPTON COUNTY
Route 58 North/South – Motorists should expect alternating lane closures from milepost 9.41 to Route 58 West Business, Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ACCOMACK COUNTY
Route 13 South – Motorists should expect a super-load traveling on Route 13 South, Route 175 East to Route 798 North, Monday, March 7, from 9:30 p.m. through Tuesday, March 8, at 5 a.m.
